The Ticonderoga DRI Committee has been working collectively and diligently since January of 2022 meeting 2-4 times per month to prepare for the Town of Ticonderoga to apply for the NYS Downtown Revitalization Initiative and/or other NYS Economic Development Programs. The committee coordinated by PRIDE of Ticonderoga and the Town of Ticonderoga consists of a number of local agencies including the Town of Ticonderoga, Pride of Ticonderoga, Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership, Ticonderoga Revitalization Alliance, Essex County Industrial Development Agency, Fort Ticonderoga,  Ticonderoga Central School, and the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism. The Ticonderoga DRI Committee is working with Elan Planning consultants to support the public participation process and our submission of the DRI application to NYS. Elan has an excellent record of participation in successful DRI applications.

Ticonderoga DRI Vision Statement:

“Set against the scenic backdrop of the LaChute River, Lake George and Lake Champlain, Ticonderoga is a hub for Adirondack and Champlain Valley recreational opportunities and experiences. The downtown is a vibrant, regional business and cultural hub that looks to the future while recognizing its identity as a historic community. At the heart of the downtown is Montcalm Street, a pedestrian-friendly corridor that features charming specialty shops and restaurants, a mix of heritage tourism and pop culture venues, arts and entertainment attractions, and contemporary services.  The corridor is surrounded by natural beauty and public open spaces that offer visitors and residents an opportunity to experience a variety of outdoor activities within walking distance of downtown.”

About NYS DRI:

New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), a cornerstone of the State’s economic development program, transforms downtown neighborhoods into vibrant centers that offer a high quality of life and are magnets for redevelopment, business, job creation, economic and housing diversity. These compact, walkable downtowns are a key ingredient to helping New York State rebuild its economy from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to achieving the State’s bold climate goals by promoting the use of public transit and reducing dependence on private vehicles. In its fifth year (last year’s program), the program invested $200 million in up to 20 additional downtowns statewide. Participating communities were nominated by the state’s ten Regional Economic Development Councils (REDCs) based on the downtown’s potential for transformation. Tentatively for 2022, within each region, the REDC will nominate either two downtowns to receive $10 million each or one downtown to receive an award of $20 million to develop a downtown strategic investment plan and implement key catalytic projects that advance the community’s vision for revitalization.

The DRI is led by the Department of State. Communities receive support from private sector experts and a team of state agency staff led by the Department of State in close partnership with Empire State Development, and NYS Homes and Community Renewal. Other agencies are also involved in reviewing and implementing projects.

How it works

Ticonderoga DRI has a process.

We invite you to participate!

Ticonderoga History

Form Committee

Public Participation

Each community should form a committee to plan and apply for the NYS DRI. Public participation is key to all applications. The application must showcase public and private investments, identify shovel-ready and future projects, as well as public ideas for Downtown.

Communities submit applications to the REDCs. Each REDC nominates one community to participate after a thorough evaluation of the downtown’s potential for transformation.

With technical assistance provided by the state, each participating community develops a Strategic Investment Plan that identifies specific projects that align with a unique vision for revitalization of the downtown area. Local planning committees oversee the effort.
